Right now I've got one and a half generations of material, some of it from five years ago, so for now I'm kinda just gonna be throwing content up here without much fuss or fanciness.
66 pictures below, accounting for all of generation 1!
This is a literature-themed legacy! Every heir must have the Bookworm trait and write at least one book, and all sims in the family will be named after literary figures (mainly characters but sometimes writers or titles or whatever) with later generations being named after more recent literature.
I'm more or less playing (and scoring myself) by the rules listed here. Exceptions include me doing a couple things at the start that I didn't know were against the rules, and occasionally giving sims non-random traits on age-up: I'm allowing a few mulligans here and there if I really just don't think the trait I rolled suits what the sim has acted like so far, and on rare occasion hand-picking a trait if the sim has really demonstrated it in the life stage they've just finished. I'm doing stuff like this for purposes of character integrity and consistency, and trying to avoid picking traits that make gameplay easier.
Here's our founder, Gilgamesh Libretto! All his traits aside from Bookworm were chosen randomly, so he's a never-nude vegetarian who can't stand art and has no sense of humor. HAHA OKAY SURE he's gonna be, real popular with the ladies, haha, ha.... He's also a Pisces and his LTW is to become a Professional Author.
Here's his good old Founder's Shack(tm)! Ah, a house on a hill by the ocean, how... lovely.......
Just kidding. Poor thing doesn't even have a carpet, let alone a bed, or a sink,
or a chair, or,,
Well, first things first! Gilgamesh is destined to be a writer, so let's get him to the library, shall we?
He certainly can't afford his own computer yet, so we'll get him started writing his first novel over here.
Brushing his teeth in the library bathroom. Classy. But, hey, he's gotta start being on the lookout for Cuties, can't blame him for sprucing up.
And, hey, he manages to hit it off with Derick Durant! Things seem to be going...
...okay, well, uh. Still, Gilgamesh has managed to make his first friend!
He invites Derick to the library again the next day, but soon learns that Derick is already married, and pretty shamelessly starts ignoring him to chat up someone else.
It's Molly French, and they get along splendidly. A nice girl who hangs out at the library, and would be able to cook for him, too!
They have a lovely romantic evening, and she doesn't even mind that Gilgamesh stinks.
Gilgamesh has a modest part-time job at the bookstore. It's not much, but hey, he's finally able to afford such commodities as carpeting and counter space. I was wondering why the dishes were piling up, until I realized I hadn't left enough cash for a sink... whoops.
Oh for fuck sake, son, that's not even art, that's your damn high school diploma! You should be a bit more proud of it, given that it's kind of all you have.
This Is Fine dot jpg
Back at the library, Gilgamesh has his first kiss! Surely he thinks this is the perfect backdrop for it, too.
Though not everyone agrees on that.
Still, aren't they sweet?
Gilgamesh has officially got a girlfriend!
And she takes right after him.
In preparation for moving Molly in, Gilgamesh finally upgrades from a sleeping bag on the floor to a double bed! Now that's luxury. I mean, casually disregarding that it's the cheapest double bed available. We can't go crazy, the boy still doesn't even have a chair (though he does finally have a sink).
UM??? Excuse you?? we have nothing of value here wtf are you doing
Also she uh, bears a momentarily-alarming slight resemblance to Molly.
Phew. Fortunately I don't think she had the chance to steal anything.
Lmao please, Gilgamesh doesn't own anything even nearly that valuable.
Just a day, just an, ordinary day...
So, Gilgamesh calls Molly over for a date! Gosh, look how happy he is.
They have a lovely night in on Gilgamesh's extremely stylish new bed, but sadly she leaves before he gets to pop the question.
The next day, our boy finally gets an oven, and after work he asks Molly out once again...
"Molly, will you take me as your husband, and also cook for me a lot because I literally just learned how to make waffles this morning and I'll probably starve to death without you?"
Yeah, that's how you propose to a chef, I guess.
AW YES
He proposed outside of the library, of course. It's their place.
Uh, he rolled the wish to have a bachelor party, so that happened I guess??? Probably Derick's idea. Or Molly's! Turns out she's a Party Animal, so I can only imagine she's off having some wild bachelorette party of her own.
Gilgamesh wasn't especially interested for the most part, aside from occasionally getting weirdly intense with Derick?
are u ok
Appropriately enough, Gilgamesh blacks out and wakes up the next morning about as confused as I do, because this is where I stopped before picking the game back up last month.
Wedding time? Wedding time!
Uh, where's Moll--oh.
Yeah so uh, I hadn't realized she was that old? Apparently she became an elder during her bachelorette party or something? Must've been some party. I'm glad that all the wedding guests share my confusion, at least.
Anyway, these nerds are adorable, and her tux is stylish as fuck.
It didn't occur to me that having the wedding in the park meant I can't get an arch or a cake or anything, so uh... whoops!! Nice backdrop, though.
Excuse me??? Thief? Shouldn't you be in jail or something? How dare you come to my wedding!!
Awwwww.
And she moves in! She looked super snazzy with her cane, by the way, but it made her glitch so I had to confiscate it. :c
Gilgamesh: Yes! Gosh!! I'm just so excited to spend the rest of my life with you!
Molly: idgaf, where is food
Gilgamesh has to pause dinner to grow up into a Full Grown Adult, though. Um. Yeah I really, had not realized there was that much of an age gap... Oh well!!
Thanks to Molly's cash, they finally buy their own computer so that Gilgamesh can write from home!
And this is their idyllic daily life, eating dinner on the couch and chatting about books. They got a very nice painting as a wedding gift, so Gilgamesh and his hatred of art are gonna have to suck it up.
After several attempts at WooHoo, I finally realized that maybe something was wrong. One, I had forgotten that "Try for Baby" is a separate interaction and failed to notice when it didn't show up because, two, I had not known that elder female sims can't get pregnant. So uh, this was quite a predicament? I spent most of Gilgamesh's young adulthood wooing and marrying Molly and all that, it really didn't seem fair to have to throw all that away just because I hadn't known that elders can't get pregnant (nor did I know about the "Ask Age" interaction yet). At this point I took a break, did a bunch of reading, and grabbed some mods. Since I wanted future heirs to be able to have kids with same-gender sims anyway, it seemed easier to just install those kinds of mods now, instead of finding one to allow elder pregnancy. (This also involved several tries at installing male pregnancy morphs and a lot of floating heads.) But, at long last:
👌👌👌 that morning sickness
(he's not as lucky the next time. lovely. you're lucky she loves you, kiddo)
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get him into pregnancy-compatible clothes in time, and uh?? you can't plan outfit for a pregnant sim, The Fuck?? so things were um, a bit interesting around the house for a little while.
same
So they head off to the hospital to have the baby, and a large crowd of people panics after watching a floating head and feet pass by. I mean, yeah.
But the floating head comes back out with a floating baby as well!
Molly's traits, by the way, are Slob, Party Animal, Hopeless Romantic, Flirty, and Daredevil. Uhh, no wonder she was so quick to take a liking to Gilgamesh, I guess? She's a Leo and her LTW is Heartbreaker AHAHA sorry Molly, ain't gonna happen.
The score so far is just two little points for the existence of Gilgamesh and his first child, who we will properly meet in the next post!
